2012 Roagna
Barbaresco Pajé & Barolo La Pira

"Roagna's 2012 Barolos and Barbarescos are off the charts."

-Antonio Galloni

There are very few producers working in Piedmont at the level that Roagna is.

Their 2012s drive this home powerfully. As Galloni's quote above makes clear, this is an extraordinary set of wines.

While most of the attention has shifted to the 2013 vintage in Piedmont, it would be a mistake to miss Roagna's 2012s. They are simply stunning.

The Roagna family has deep roots in Piedmont stretching back four generations. To this day, there's been a steady march of traditionalism.

We've drunk impressive bottles from the 70s, but the wines have clearly hit a whole new level since Luca Roagna took the helm over a decade ago. 2010 was a breakout vintage and each vintage the wines seem to get finer and more precise.

The 2012s show such clarity, finesse and striking aromatics - it's impossible not to be wowed by them. The Barbaresco Pajé has incredible perfume with soaring lift. There's amazing class and clarity of expression. The 2012 Barolo Pira is more muscular than the Pajé. It has a fascinating expansive and multidimensional complexity. We completely agree with Antonio Galloni when he writes, "What a wine!"

This is simply a ridiculously exciting collection of wines. There's no better place to witness why Roagna is considered one of the greatest estates in the Piedmont today.
