A Study in Grace and Understatement Revisited:
2017 Bertheau Chambolle-Musigny

Posted by Ian McFadden

Bertheau's are some of the Burgundies that I'm most fond of. They thrive on nuance and understatement.

The wines are archetypes of just how graceful and pure Burgundy can be.

They are subtle, refined, and gorgeously mineral.

Bertheau's Chambolle beautifully underscores these qualities. When you factor in the value that Bertheau's Chambolle offers, it goes a long way in explaining why it sells out quickly each time we offer the wine.

It's a supremely elegant wine with a hauntingly gorgeous perfume. The Chambolle always offers up beautiful transparency and heart-breaking delicacy.

The 2017 is really compelling. I jumped at the opportunity to buy it again. In this vintage, the Chambolle crackles with energy and is bursting with perfume and mineral-tinged red fruit, all backed by a silken texture.

I'm always excited to offer the Chambolle AC. Not many wines at this price point get to the heart of what makes red Burgundy beautiful the way that Bertheau's Chambolle does.

Burghound: "An attractively fresh herbal tea-inflected nose offers up a lovely range of various red berries and soft spice wisps. The delicious and nicely vibrant middle weight flavors possess a fleshy mouthfeel while exhibiting reasonably good depth and persistence on the balanced and refreshing finish. This isn't especially dense and thus should be approachable in its youth if preferred."
