Balance to the Extreme:
2015 Brovia Barolo Rocche di Castiglione

Posted by Joe Salamone

Rocche is a key site for Brovia.

Not only does Brovia have a very choice parcel within this vineyard, but it’s also their oldest holding and home to their oldest vines.

If we were to tally up our favorite bottles of Brovia, ones from Rocche would dominate the list.

In Rocche, you find a gorgeous balance between the more muscular Barolos of Monforte and Serralunga and the more perfumed and feminine examples from La Morra. Rocche leads with beautifully complex floral, red fruit and spice notes, backed by a firm edge of raw tannin. Above all, Rocche is about aromatics and elegance.

In 2015, Rocche flaunts the muscular side of its personality. Brovia's style always possesses power, but in 2015 this element moves to the forefront. What's most striking about Brovia's 2015 collection, and on bold display in the Rocche, is the overall harmony and subtle complexity that they teased out of the vintage.

Brovia's 2015 Rocche is a tour de force delivering full-throttle intensity with incredible balance and completeness. It offers up gorgeous aromatics with lots of textural allure. The combination of thundering force and lifted, high-toned aromatics creates an incredibly fascinating total package.

To learn more about Brovia and especially their sites, I strongly encourage you to listen to Levi Dalton's I'll Drink To That! interview with Brovia's Alex Sanchez.

As I mentioned earlier, Rocche is a special bottling at Brovia. Even in their stunning lineup, Rocche stands out for its depth, aromatic nuance, and how finely calibrated it is. These qualities really stand out in 2015.
