Chave's wines are some of our favorites, and we have a particular soft spot for his Saint-Joseph.
Along with Pierre Gonon, Chave produces our favorite expression of Saint-Joseph. Chave's Saint-Joseph is something we cellar each vintage.
We're really excited to offer Chave's 2015 and 2016 Saint-Joseph Clos Florentin. It's a wine that we're always on the hunt for. We feel very fortunate to be able to offer back-vintages.
The first vintage of Chave's Clos Florentin was 2015. It's a historic vineyard, first planted by monks in the 15th century. Chave purchased the site in 2009.
I've tasted every release of Clos Florentin to date, and I feel confident that it represents the pinnacle of the appellation and a wine that will age brilliantly.
The Chave family has deep roots in Saint-Joseph, dating all the way back to 1481. Jean-Louis has been a major proponent of Saint-Joseph’s potential, buying choice parcels and painstakingly rebuilding terraces there since the 1990s. Today, Chave's family home is in Mauves, in the beating heart of Saint-Joseph.
In its debut, the 2015 Clos Florentin is striking and possesses an incredible impression of completeness. There's power, energy, and beautiful proportions. When you taste it, every component seems to be perfectly in place. The 2016 is a stunning follow-up. The wine has great concentration, but it also has a dynamic mineral quality that creates an added sense of elegance and energy.
I'll wrap this up. The two vintages are ideal bookends. You couldn't ask for better vintages to kick off a new wine. Sadly, both wines are very limited. Please give us your ideal order and we'll try our best.
