Chave's wines are some of our favorites, and we have a particular soft spot for his Saint-Joseph.
Along with Pierre Gonon, Chave produces our favorite expression of Saint-Joseph. Chave's St. Joseph is something we cellar each vintage.

The Chave family has deep roots in Saint-Joseph, dating all the way back to 1481. Jean-Louis has been a major proponent of Saint-Joseph’s potential, buying choice parcels and painstakingly rebuilding terraces there since the 1990s. Today, Chave's family home is in Mauves, in the beating heart of Saint-Joseph.
As much as we love Chave's regular Saint Joseph, Clos Florentin simply exists on another plane.
The first vintage of Chave's Clos Florentin was 2015. It's a historic vineyard first planted by monks in the 15th century. Chave purchased the site in 2009. After having tasted five vintages of the Clos Florentin, I feel confident that it represents the pinnacle of the appellation and a wine that will age brilliantly.
Both the 2017 and 2020 Clos Florentin flaunt the singular breeding, incredible structure, and sheer density that the wine possesses. The 2017 has explosive aromatics of spice and floral notes. The 2020 is the darker of the two wines with a beautiful suave texture and serious punch.
