For us, Enderle & Moll are making some of the greatest Pinot Noirs in Germany; they have been now for nearly 15 years.
Enderle & Moll obviously have the magic touch when it comes to Pinot Noir.
Since the beginning, Enderle and Moll's house style has been a radiant elegance, an uncanny lightness paired with wildly complex aromatics, great depth, and soil-clarity. In fact, the name of the Grand Crus, in this case, the "Buntsandstein," translates directly to the soil-type: colored sandstone.
In terms of German Pinot Noir, there's simply nothing to compare them to. There's a singular finesse and weightless intensity. Above all, there's a subtle depth to the wines that offer endless fascination.
The 2021 is one of the most extreme renditions of this wine in many years. It has a radiant energy with heady red fruit and perfume. Yet on the palate, there is a push-pull - saturating fruit with great depth while also being super-fine and delineated.
The "Buntsandstein" is normally the most expansive of the Pinot Noir collection; this is perhaps the most focused edition they have ever made.
This all comes at a cost. Buntsandstein is always an extremely limited bottle, but the low yields of 2021 make this release even worse. There are not many bottles to go around. You know the drill.
