Fleurie With Teeth - Best to Date:
2014 Dutraive Fleurie Grand'Cour VV

Posted by Joe Salamone

Jean-Louis Dutraive has emerged as one of Beaujolais' top talents.

2014 is without a doubt the best vintage that we've tasted from him.

As always, Grand'Cour VV is the standout.

When we had an opportunity to re-up on the Grand'Cour VV, we jumped on it. At release, we bought as much as we could and it quickly disappeared.

Dutraive has vines throughout Fleurie and some in Brouilly, but Clos de la Grand'Cour is the domaine's heart and soul. This is an actual 8ha clos (a walled in vineyard) and a monopole for Dutraive. The VV comes from 60-70 year old vines here.

Fleurie Grand’Cour VV is Fleurie with muscle. Think of Fleurie by way of Gevrey. Fleurie is known for being feminine and floral, and there's florality for sure - but with an added dose of brawn. Think of it as Fleurie with teeth.

The 2014 vintage in Beaujolais produced a gorgeous group of wines. They're vibrant, but they're also packed with concentration and structure. We haven't seen this combination in such balanced proportions in a long time.

The 2014 Grand'Cour VV is one of the most structured and generally impressive 2014s we've tasted. It presents Grand'Cour's typical notes with amazing clarity and lift. There are scents of spice, roses and earth that are complicated by dark berry fruits.

Dutraive's wines entered a crowded Beaujolais market five years ago. They've had no trouble standing out. In 2014, Dutraive hit a whole other level. We expect there won't be another opportunity to buy the 2014s. Don't miss.
