Rare Sighting
2018 Lapierre Morgon Sans Soufre

Posted by Joe Salamone

Each summer, we offer Lapierre's Sans Soufre and it sells out in a flash.

It's easy to understand. The sans soufre version is a rare sighting. More importantly, it takes the deliciousness of the sulphured version of Lapierre's Morgon to another level.

We've made the comparison with the normal sulphured version a bunch of times over many vintages. The unsulphured version consistently shows a textural dimension, a clarity of expression, and an intangible depth that sets it apart.

It's not surprising, but 2018 is a winner for Lapierre's Sans Soufre. The 2018 vintage in Beaujolais was ripe, but it still managed a level of freshness that keeps the wines lively and gulpable.

Almost as a rule, Lapierre excels in ripe vintages. The extra layer that sunny vintages endow Lapierre with really sets the wines apart. It gives them more punch and an extra dimension of complexity, but not at the expense of levity or that granite-inflected minerality that makes drinking Lapierre so lovely.

Everyone knows the deal with Lapierre and the Sans Soufre bottling is never in great supply, so I'll wrap this up. Please give us your ideal order and we'll try our best.
