"Readers should do everything possible to add some of these wines to their cellars."
- 2013 Brovia Barolo Brea - Ca' Mia & Villero

Posted by Joe Salamone

Brovia is at the top of their game. You don't have to look any further for evidence than their 2013 Barolo. Their 2013s firmly places them among Piedmont's elite.

Despite being among the region's top traditionalists, Brovia's wines cost significantly less than their peers. It's difficult to know how long this pricing discrepancy will hold, but it's easy to assume that its days are numbered. For now, Brovia's single vineyard Barolos are some of the smartest buys around.

The Brovia style isn't shy on power, but what makes the wines so impressive is their finesse and nuance. They lead with red fruits, but the backdrop is a kaleidoscopic mix of earth, herbs and flowers.

The style really flourished in the glorious 2013 vintage. The vintage is all about finesse and clarity. Brovia really honed in on these qualities and turned out a remarkably precise and elegant collection. They captured the beating heart of each of their sites with incredible acuity.

Starting with the Brea Vigna Ca’ Mia, this is one of Brovia's most loved bottlings. It's a bottle with personality to spare. It's rich, powerful, earthy, dark, truffle-y with a perfectly fascinating rustic side. The 2013 has soaring aromatics and as Galloni writes, "bristles with energy and pure class."

Villero is one of the top sites of Barolo’s Castiglione Falletto commune - right up there with Monprivato or Rocche di Castiglione. The vineyard faces southwest and has mostly clay soil, which gives the wines their sense of muscle, as well as their boldness and plush fruit, flower and earth. The 2013 possesses an incredibly delineated power. The aromatic profile covers everything from spice to earth and flowers.

To learn more about Brovia and especially their sites, I strongly encourage you to listen to Levi Dalton's I'll Drink To That! interview with Brovia's Alex Sanchez.

This is a monumental, don't-miss vintage for Brovia. Judging by the response to our other 2013 Piedmont offers, we expect this to disappear quickly. Brovia is simply one of the most exciting producers in Piedmont and people have taken notice.
