"Really outstanding - very pure and unforced." - 2014 Bertheau Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses

Posted by Ian McFadden

Les Amoureuses is the most sought after wine in Bertheau’s stable.

Collectors aggressively hunt it down. And landing it in anything close to decent quantity is very difficult. Bertheau only has 0.32ha of the 1er Cru. Currently, there are only three other listings for Bertheau's Amoureuses in the U.S.

Les Amoureuses is a site that Burgundy lovers freak out over. It's a Grand Cru in all but name. It struts a spellbinding level of refinement and ethereal complexity. There are few wines in all of Burgundy as stirring or that reach a similar level of breeding and nuance.

Year after year, François Bertheau kills it with his Amoureuses. It represents one of the great marriages between producer and site. Bertheau's wines thrive on understatement and a walk on tip toe elegance. Jancis Robinson sums it up well when she writes: "His wines are really outstanding - very pure and unforced." He gets to the beating heart of Amoureuses like few producers do.

2014 is an especially energetic, vibrant and texturally haunting vintage for the wine. The 2014 Les Amoureuses carries an expansive spectrum of aromatics - red fruits, flowers, minerals and spices. All of this is presented with a seamlessly silken mouthfeel.

Being able to offer Bertheau Amoureuses is a rare treat. Few producers do purity and transparency better than Bertheau. His Amoureuses represents the pinnacle of his line up.

2014 Bertheau Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses

Burghound: "Here too the expressive nose is notably floral in character with a beautiful array of spice elements adding breadth to the equally fresh and pure red currant and cherry aromas. There is excellent punch and a bit more volume if perhaps not quite the complexity of the Charmes, at least not yet, all wrapped in an overtly stony finale. We'll see after a few years of bottle age but the Bertheau Amoureuses generally ages out more successfully compared to the Charmes and hence my slightly higher predicted range."
