Riveting Transparency:
2015 Emrich-Schönleber Riesling “Mineral” Trocken

Posted by Joe Salamone

Today, we present 2015 Germany at its most razor sharp, clear and yes, mineral.

We've spoken at length about the magic of the 2015 vintage - ripeness married to crackling acidity.

Emrich-Schönleber's "Mineral" emphasizes just how fresh and mineral 2015 can be. There may be no stronger example of this dimension of the vintage. The 2015 Mineral is fierce in a way that's very compelling.

Jancis Robinson, a self-proclaimed acid-freak, pulls no punches about the 2015 Mineral: “Really piercing stony nose - right up the nostrils! Some lime and blossom on the palate - really smart, serious wine with great delicacy.”

Emrich-Schönleber is one of Germany's great practitioners of dry Riesling. The estate has focused on dry Rieslings for many, many years and the Schönlebers are acclaimed masters of the style. Emrich-Schönleber has a huge reputation in Germany. They make some of the greatest dry Rieslings from Germany and they price their wines accordingly with the "Grand Crus" going for $70+ a bottle. The Mineral bottling offers incredible value.

The 2015 Mineral Trocken is a precise, arrow-straight Riesling -- spring-loaded with acidity -- that flies directly at its mark. Its sharp, delineated edges, its intensity and its light-footed fineness are all signatures of the inimitable Emrich-Schönleber style. It is all about rigorous purity and chiseled minerality.

This is one of the most intensely bracing and transparent wines that we've tasted from 2015. Even more, this one of the best deals you'll find in dry 2015 Germany.

Riesling "Mineral" Trocken

John Gilman, View from the Cellar: "The 2015 Mineral Trocken is perhaps even a touch more precise than the lovely Lenz bottling. The bouquet is pure, youthfully complex and very transparent, offering up scents of blood orange, pink grapefruit, lemongrass, striking minerality, a hint of petrol and a topnote of fresh almond. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very pure on the attack, with a fine core, lovely cut and grip and a very long, vibrant and perfectly balanced finish. Another stellar wine.”
