Supremely Elegant:
2015 Keller Riesling Von Der Fels Trocken

Posted by Joe Salamone

There very well may be no other $30 bottle of white wine that delivers as much refinement and sophistication as Keller's.

The 2015 Keller Von der Fels flaunts this in ways that we've seldom seen from this ridiculously over-performing bottle.

Keller's 2015s are explosive and crystal clear. The 2015 Von der Fels has an explosive, hyper-articulate stony minerality. There are also deep, tightly woven notes of herbs, flowers and citrus. The poise, length and detail are pretty amazing.

This is a Von der Fels to go deep on. There's no doubt that it will age beautifully on the mid-term, say 8-10 years.

The 2015 Von der Fels is not far from the level of complexity and breeding that you find in his GGs that can cost three times as much.

Klaus-Peter Keller is easily one of the most fascinating and talented winemakers we know. To get a sense of this, Levi Dalton's I'll Drink to That interview with Keller is very much worth listening to. There are many ways to highlight Keller's skill, but perhaps the best is what he achieves with a wine at the price point of Von der Fels.

John Gilman: "The 2015 von der Fels is a step up from the very good Estate Trocken bottling, wafting from the glass in a complex and vibrant constellation of grapefruit, blood orange, stony minerality, gentle notes of wild yeasts, citrus peel, lemongrass and a moderately smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and supremely elegant, with a fine core, ripe, zesty acids, great focus and grip and a very long, vibrant and utterly refined finish. Great juice."
