The past handful of vintages have offered ample evidence that Brovia is at the top of their game.
Their 2014 Brovia Barolo Ūnĭo may offer the most persuasive argument for inclusion among Piedmont's elite.
There's no point mincing words: 2014 was one of the most challenging vintages Barolo has seen in some time.
It's all the more amazing that Brovia turned out such a stunning wine in the vintage.
To be fair, they pulled out all the stops. Brovia sold half of their production in bulk and released a single blended wine called Ūnĭo. The wine is sourced from the lower sector of Brea containing the best-exposed and oldest vines plus two undisclosed Crus.
Labeling 2014 Barolos simply as a "difficult vintage" is reductive and misses the surprising high points of the vintage. Antonio Galloni writes that at its best the 2014s are: "some of the most thrilling young Barolos I have ever tasted. The best 2014s possess extraordinary aromatic intensity, finely sketched fruit and silky tannins."
Brovia's signature is power married to finesse and nuance. The 2014 Ūnĭo possesses a surprising amount of muscular depth and super clear minerality and a really beautiful aromatic spectrum.
