Sure, you can find sexier bottlings from Chambolle-Musigny: Bonnes Mares, Amoureuses, etc. But each time I taste through Drouhin, the 1er Cru bottling is incredibly memorable. Over the years, it's become clear that I'm not alone. Our offers are always met with a big response.
The Chambolle 1er Cru bottling combines five small 1er Cru parcels in Chambolle, all owned and biodynamically farmed by Drouhin, with vine age averaging 30 years. The plots are simply too small to bottle individually. There seems to be some wisdom at work here because the wine has an impressive sense of completeness, along with great tension and balance.
As the Burghound quote above makes clear, the 2018 Chambolle 1er Cru is a serious success. The 2018 vintage in Burgundy is legendary for how warm the summer was. By all accounts, Drouhin nailed the vintage. Their delicate, graceful, and pure style really excelled in 2018, and the Chambolle 1er Cru highlights this.
In any vintage, Drouhin's Chambolle 1er Cru is a dynamite bottle. I have very high expectations for the 2018 and have been buying the wine at every opportunity. When this bottle is hitting on all cylinders, it can be amazingly good. I'm very happy to have this opportunity to re-offer.
