"This is lovely"
-2021 Lafarge Volnay 1er Cru 5 Climats

Frédéric Lafarge isn't shy about his feelings about his 2021s. As quoted by Burghound, he says: "Quantities aside, I love this vintage, in fact I call it joyous because the wines have so much freshness and energy."

Sadly, it's impossible not to pause on the quantities. The vineyards were hit very hard by frost. Yields were between 6 and 12 hectoliters per hectarea fraction of a normal vintage.

Due to the small quantities, Lafarge made the decision to blend his five 1er Cru vineyards into a single wine. This is the first time ever that Lafarge has blended these sites, and this is a long established domaine.

As I've written before, Lafarge is one of our favorite producers. There's something magical and captivating about Lafarge's wines and their understated grace.

The 2021 Volnay 1er Cru 5 Climats really dramatizes this. It has the gorgeous clarity and precision that I love so much about Lafarge's wines. There's a fascinating nuance and soulfulness to the wine.

I'll wrap this up. As you could guess, quantities are very limited. At this sharp price, I expect a quick sell-out.
