Wine of the Year
Bobby's Pick

For my wine of the year, it was imperative for me to choose a top-flight Burgundy for under $100.

In searching for this proverbial square peg in a round hole, I immediately thought of Guillaume d'Angerville's Volnay 1er Cru.

The trick was finding enough. Over the past twenty years, I've hunted after d'Angerville's 1er Cru for its extraordinary price to quality ratio. The perennial issue with the wine is that it's produced in very small quantities. Allocations tend to amount to just a few cases. With many thanks to Grand Cru Selections and Guillaume d'Angerville, I have been able to secure enough wine for this very meaningful offer.

D'Angerville's 2018 Volnay 1er Cru is in stock. You don't have to wait to experience the wine's brilliance.

I can confidently say that Guillaume d'Angerville is consistently turning out some of the greatest wines in all of Burgundy. While d'Angerville's 2018 line-up is simply spectacular, the Volnay 1er cru has never before reached such a high level of depth and velvety finesse.

The warmth of the 2018 vintage endowed the 1er Cru with a world-class punch and the incredible fine texture that the best Volnays achieve. What's most astonishing about this wine is that it marries the impact of the vintage with incredible lift. It's downright shocking in this regard.

Guillaume d'Angerville is one of my favorite people in the wine business. He's thoughtful, sensitive, and uber-talented. His easy-going nature belies the masterful and painstakingly composed wines that he turns out.

With all things considered, there wasn't any doubt that the 2018 1er Cru should be my wine of the year. I'm very happy to sprinkle this around to Crush's customers.

Burghound:

"Here the nose is notably spicier if less earthy in character on the equally ripe though a bit more elegant aromas of various dark berries and violet hints. There is more restraint to the cooler and less powerful flavors that display only slightly more refinement before culminating in a solidly powerful and built-to-age finale."
