2022 Bachelet-Monnot Bourgogne Rouge
About This Wine
Danjou-Banessy's Roboul delivers a freshness and overall drinkability that's very rarely seen in Southern France. It's a bottle that offers equal parts fascination and delightful drinking.
This is an old estate that until recently exclusively produced the famed and long-lived fortified wine, Rivesaltes. In 2001 a young Benoît Danjou took the reins at the estate, and while continuing to produce fortified wines he began to focus on dry whites and reds.
Now joined by his brother, Sébastien, they are obsessive about working their vineyards as naturally and with the greatest care possible. In fact, the vineyard has never been subjected to chemical treatments. Their conscientiousness in the vineyard shows in the wines' incredible lift and clarity.
The Côtes du Roussillon Rouge Roboul is a blend of Mourvèdre and Grenache grown on clay limestone soils. It's hard not to be wowed by the wine's vibrancy and precision. You can think of it as a cross between Foillard and Pradeaux's Bandol with a significantly greater portion of the former.
