Vigna Rionda is one of Barolo's great sites.

Rionda is a well exposed, limestone-rich vineyard that has the potential to deliver epic Barolos.

This potential is certainly realized in Oddero's 1999. The bottle blew a group of us away when we drank it last fall in Piedmont. I was very happy to find a small parcel of what's on offer today when I returned.

While this bottle is holding plenty in reserve, it is in a really nice spot right now. It's a great example of the seamless power of the 1999 Barolos and how they are in a nicely accessible place.

The vintage is a great match for Oddero's style and Rionda as a site. It offers up plenty of muscle, dark fruits, spice, and violet notes. You get very complicated depth along with poise and lifted aromatics. The total package is stunning.
