"Check Out Oddero" - Hitting Another Level, Again:
2015 Oddero Barolo Villero

Posted by Ian McFadden

Buying Oddero's 2015 Villero didn't require more than a moment's thought.

It's among our favorite wines from the vintage, and when you factor in price and quality, there's no competition.

We're happy to offer Oddero's 2015 Barolo Villero at the very sharp price of $65.95 on bottles and $59.95 in 4-packs.

If you were to compare pricing, you'd see that this is about as low as it gets. However, that doesn't seem to be what's crucial here. What's more important is that you get a wine that's working at an absolutely elite level for an affordable price. The 2015 Villero will age beautifully for the next two decades. There are not many $60 bottles of red wine that you can say this about.

Poderi Oddero is a long-standing traditional Barolo producer. In recent vintages, though, things have really clicked into high gear. The current wines possess a beautiful clarity of expression, depth of fruit, and harmonious structure. Many Barolo fanatics would place Oddero in the same realm as the region's greats. We wholeheartedly concur with Antonio Galloni when he writes: "Readers who enjoy fine, classically built wines will want to check out Oddero."

Villero is one of the top sites of Barolo’s Castiglione Falletto commune - right up there with Monprivato or Rocche di Castiglione. The vineyard faces southwest and has mostly clay soil, which gives the wines their sense of muscle, as well as their boldness and plush fruit, flower, and earth.

Oddero's 2015 Barolos show the vintage at its best. The collection is seriously powerful, but also elegant and spot-on when it comes to balance. You have the total package of serious structure, well-integrated tannins, and complex aromatics.

Their 2015 Villero highlights the fine calibration and incredible weave of textures and flavors that the collection achieves. The composition of the Villero is simply profound and shows the level of mastery on display at the estate.

Oddero has been making Barolos for over 200 years. I strongly suggest that you check out Levi Dalton's I'll Drink To That! interview with Isabella Oddero for a very in-depth history of the estate and a better understanding of Oddero in general.

As I eluded to earlier, this is the smartest buy from the 2015 Barolo vintage that I've encountered. Oddero has been on a major upswing in the past handful of years. The 2015 Villero represents another breakthrough for Oddero.

Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media: "The 2015 Barolo Villero is another striking wine in this range. Here it is the wine's texture and resonance that stand out most. Spice, lavender and menthol notes appear with time in the glass, but it is really the layers of depth and overall complexity that make the Villero one of the most complete wines in the range."
