Hitting A High-Water Mark, Again
2013 Roagna Barolo La Pira

Posted by Joe Salamone

Simply put, Roagna is at the top of their game.

There are very few producers working in Piedmont at their level.

Roagna has deep roots in Piedmont dating back four generations. We've tasted their wines going back to the 70s and can testify to how high the quality has been here for some time.

However, the wines have clearly hit a whole new level since Luca Roagna took the helm over a decade ago. 2010 was a breakout vintage and each vintage the wines seem to get finer and more precise. The 2013s represent another high-water mark.

Roagna's 2013s have a radiant clarity and a punchy dynamic energy that's thrilling. Generally speaking, 2013 is one of the top vintages that we've seen in the past decade. Roagna nailed capturing the pristine and classical nature of the vintage.

The 2013 Pira has soaring power, gripping depth and beautiful elegance. It's shocking how the wine managers to combine such density and verve. The spectrum of flavors is jaw dropping - layered red fruits, game, earth, tar, herbs, spice, etc.

We created special 4-pack pricing, because this is something that demands cellar space. There's no doubt that this unyieldingly traditional Barolo will age beautifully.
