"Long on nuance and subtlety"
2008 Giuseppe Mascarello Barolo Riserva Monprivato Ca' d'Morissio

Posted by Ian McFadden

Mascarello's Monprivato is one of the most refined and elegant wines of Barolo.

The Monprivato Cà d’Morissio reaches an even more extraordinary level.

Cà d’Morissio comes from a special section of Monprivato that was replanted in the eighties with the Michet clone that the Mascarello family originally used for Monprivato in the 20s. 1993 was the first vintage and Cà d’Morissio quickly earned a status that rivals Conterno's Monfortino and Giacosa's Red Labels.

The 2008 Cà d’Morissio is a brilliant example, taking all of the wine's delicacy, finesse and spellbinding aromatics to the extreme. The amount of detail and clarity of expression that it offers is simply beautiful.

We love 2008 in Piedmont. 2008 is a vintage of, above all else, classical proportions and purity. The comparison to 2008 Burgundy is helpful here because Barolos from this vintage share a similar precision and terroir expression. Very few vintages deliver such completeness and harmony. And few 2008s offer as much complexity and quiet precision as Cà d’Morissio.

This is the first time that we've offered Cà d’Morissio. The combination of pricing and vintage were too compelling not to. The 2008 Cà d’Morissio is one of the most dazzlingly elegant Barolos you'll ever encounter.

2008 Giuseppe Mascarello Barolo Ca d'Morissio

Antonio Galloni, Vinous: "The 2008 Barolo Riserva Ca'd' Morissio is precise, lifted and intensely aromatic, with all the grace and inner perfume that is often found in this compelling Barolo vintage. Sweet dark cherries, lavender, dried herbs and licorice are all laced together in a delicate Barolo long on nuance and subtlety. The 2008 Monprivato took a few years to blossom. I imagine that will be the case here as well, as the Ca' d'Morissio is very closed today."
