The Vendanges Sélectionnées may be the hidden gem of Lafarge’s line-up.
Lafarge is a very special producer for me. I love the entire line-up. With all that said, I have a soft spot for the VS. The wine offers such nuance, depth, and finesse for the price.
It’s easily one of the best deals in Volnay. The VS keeps a low profile for how much complexity and value it offers year-after-year.
I was really excited to snag this parcel of 2010 Lafarge Volnay Vendanges Sélectionnées.
The VS is a selection of the domaine's best village-level parcels. Compared to Lafarge’s regular Volnay, the VS seems to consolidate and amplify everything. There’s an extra layer of intensity, but it’s delivered with an almost effortless grace and elegance.
The 2010 red Burgundies are utterly brilliant. The clarity, finesse, and intensity of the wines are extraordinary. It's difficult for me to even compare the wines to any other vintages.
As you could guess, Lafarge's 2010s are excellent. Writing about the 2010 Vendanges Sélectionnées in 2013, Burghound remarked: "This is a seriously good villages expressly built to age." The wine is entering its prime drinking window, boasting the luminous precision of the vintage with pristine earth tones and gorgeous top notes of bright floral-tinged red fruits.
Before wrapping up, I should note that this is a very modest parcel. I'm expecting a quick sell out.
